Our History

First generation owner Ray Maserang Sr. established Walnut Park Auto Body in 1943. The name comes from the North St. Louis neighborhood that he was located in. Since new cars were not available during World War II, Ray focused on rebuilding and selling wrecks. After the war, Ray needed more room for his growing business. So in 1947 we moved to our current location on historic Route 66 in Crestwood, MO.

In the 1950s and 60s, rebuilding wrecks, such as the newly introduced Corvette, was still our primary line of work. Also, we expanded a couple of times on the west side of the lot to accommodate our growing customer base. Watson Road (Route 66) transformed from a two-lane road, to a four-lane highway with new businesses lining it's sides. The farmland slowly disappeared to new suburban homes. Ray Jr. started working here too, and after serving his country in the late 60s, he came back to work here full time.

In the 1970s, our focus shifted away from rebuilding wrecks and selling them to collision work for the general public.

Sadly, in July 1984, founder Ray Sr., or as many knew him, 'Sonny' died. Ray Jr. became the second-generation owner and took over the day-to-day operations. Also, in the late 80s, third generation sons, Ray III and Scott began working here. In 2008, after Ray Jr.'s retirement, Ray III, and Scott took over the daily operations.

We have continued the tradition of high quality repairs on all makes and models. We also restore antique and vintage muscle cars. To date, we have restored hundreds of cars and have had several featured in national magazines and TV shows. We keep a nice balance of collision, insurance, and restoration work and look forward to serving Crestwood and St. Louis for many more years to come!
